Tracepoints
Tracepoints is the current working
name for functionality being previewed in the TotalView Debugger. Tracepoints
allow developers to easily collect and display data without interrupting either
the debugger or the target application.
Conceptually, Tracepoints offer very robust "printf-like"
capability, offering programmers an easy way to view program data
without the drawback of having to recompile the target application
each time.
Tracepoints are similar to the "actionpoint" and
"breakpoint" functionality available in the TotalView
Debugger, with the exception that data is collected as a background
task, without interrupting the user's development and debugging
activities, and can be viewed outside the Debugger using the
Tracepoints viewer.

TotalView Technologies Early Experience Program Overview
The early experience program allows participants to get both an early view of and input into new products and technologies being developed at TotalView Technologies. This is an important way for you to help us continue to deliver products that really address your development challenges.
The technologies being explored (in addition to Tracepoints) with early experience participants currently include:
- Reverse Debugging
- Advanced Workbench Technology
- TAU Performance Tuning Tool Integration with TotalView Source Code Debugger and TracePoints
Each one of these represents a "track" in the early experience program. Individuals may participate in program activities related to all of these products or may choose any subset. Over time we may introduce new tracks to the early experience program and as products are made generally available they may be retired from the early experience program or their track may continue for feedback on more advanced versions.
